Finally Back: Huawei Announces Mate 50 Series with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1

After being in limbo for 2 years, Huawei has finally made the Mate 50 series official with the vanilla, Pro, and ultra-premium RS variant. All three phones come with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor that’s limited to 4G connectivity, though they make up for it by having support for China’s BeiDou satellite system. All three support 66w wired and 50w wireless charging solutions.

Their main feature is the 50-megapixel main camera that has a variable aperture of f/1.4 to 4.0, which is adjustable by 10 steps. The main camera has OIS and laser autofocus and is accompanied by a 10-channel sensor. You also get a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera across the line.

The vanilla Mate 50 comes with a 6.7-inch 90hz OLED display, 4460mAh battery, and a 12-megapixel RYYB telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. The Pro model has a 6.74-inch 120hz Curved OLED display, a large notch to house its 3D ToF sensor and 13-megapixel selfie camera, a bigger 4700mAh battery, and a 64-megapixel RYYB telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom. The latter is swapped with a 48-megapixel RYYB periscope camera with 5x optical zoom and macro on the top-end RS variant.

Like its predecessor, the RS variant has a ceramic body and a hexagonal-shaped camera module.
