Google Interested in Acquiring FitBit in Latest Report

Will there be a Pixel Watch in the future?

Google is set to expand its hardware portfolio with talks of acquiring FitBit, according to a report by Reuters. Prior to this development, Google acquired Fossil’s smartwatch-related intellectual property for $40 million last January, though Google has yet revealed its plans for it.

Reuters’ source declined to comment on pertinent details about the rumored deal, though the news was beneficial for FitBit, as its shares rose by 27%. FitBit has cut its 2019 revenue forecast, citing disappointing sales for its latest wearables.

Currently, Google does not have its own wearable, and it is only providing WearOS to other brands. Should Google push through with acquiring FitBit, we might see a Pixel Watch in the future to compete with similar offerings from Huawei, Samsung, and Xiaomi.
