Google just unveiled the Pixel 9 series and showcases their new AI quirks and features alongside improved hardware. There are two plot twists this time: the Pixel 9 Pro now has a compact version, and all Pixel 9 phones–includeing the Pixel 9 Pro Fold–only ship with Android 14 out of the box. Despite that, Google assures that all Pixel 9 phones will be among the first to receive Android 15 once it goes official to the public.
Starting with the regular Pixel 9, you get a 6.3-inch 120hz OLED display that’s larger than its predecessor and boasts an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and a peak brightness of 2700nits. Keeping the lights on is a 4700mAh battery that supports 45w USB-PD charging. You still get the same IP68 rating as well.
The camera setup consists of 50-megapixel ISOCELL GNK with OIS for the main camera, a new 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and the same 10.5-megapixel selfie camera. Powering all Pixel 9 phones is a Tensor G4 processor, which is an octa-core chip with one Cortex-X4 core, three Cortex-A720 cores, and four Cortex-A520 cores. Like its predecessors, Google will support the Pixel 9 series of phones for 7 years with software updates, OS, and security patches.
Moving to the middle child of the series, the Pixel 9 Pro has the same size as the regular Pixel 9, but its display has a higher resolution at 1280 x 2856, uses an LTPO panel, and a higher peak brightness at 3000nits. The Pixel 9 Pro adds a third camera in a form of a 48-megapixel periscope shooter with 5x optical zoom, a new 42-megapixel selfie camera, and Multi-Zone LDAF for all three rear cameras.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL is basically a bigger version with its 6.8-inch LTPO display that has a 1344×2992 resolution. You also get a bigger 5060mAh battery.
