The Hero 13 Black Now Has Interchangeable Lenses, Bigger Battery

GoPro’s new flagship action cameras have officially been announced today, with the top-of-the-line Hero 13 Black getting the most upgrades from the brand’s offering last year. The new action camera is getting quite a few upgrades this year, including new interchangeable lenses, magnetic mounting and charging, as well as a slightly bigger battery that has around 10% more juice.

The most interesting of the three new lenses that GoPro is offering for the new camera is the Ultra Wide lens. This is a $100 add-on that allows you to shoot in 1:1 aspect ratio, which gives creators the option to decide post-capture if they want to show their video in either vertical or horizontal formats. Finally, all you need to do is shoot your content, and you can decide how to frame it later.

Aside from that, the new camera also gets a Macro Lens as well as Anamorphic Lens Mod which helps serious videographers capture video with a 21:9 aspect ratio.

The new camera has all the features and capabilities of the previous model, along with a new, ultra-slow-motion capture capability of 400 frames a second at 720, limited to 15 seconds of recording time. You can also shoot in slo-mo with the camera’s maximum recording resolution of 5.3K, but you’re limited to just 120FPS for up to 5 seconds. Hero 13 Black also supports Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG), as well as GPS, so you can add telemetry data to the stuff you shoot, and allows you to add cool overlays of your biking path, for example, if you’re editing through GoPro’s Quik app.

There’s a lot of QoL improvements for the Hero 13 as well. You’re getting Bluetooth compatibility with Apple’s AirPods and other wireless headphones over Bluetooth, as well as transfer files faster thanks to WiFi 6.

The GoPro Hero 13 Black is priced at $400 (~Php 22K) for just the camera. Expect it to be available in the Philippines soon.
