HMD Global Allegedly Working On Penta-lens Camera For Nokia Phones

Wat!?

There’s rumors of triple rear cameras being floated out that’ll be allegedly used on the upcoming Huawei P11 (or P20, depending on who you believe) but HMD Global, the company behind the revived Nokia brand is allegedly working on a penta (five) lens camera setup.

That’s according to a source that’s familiar with Foxconn’s R&D business, the company that HMD Global works closely with for the new Nokia phones. The five camera setup would be adapted from the Nokia Ozo, which has an eight camera setup for 360 photos and videos.

The camera will have a circular form-factor, with seven holes in the middle that form a circle. The additional two holes will house the LED flash, while the five holes are for the cameras. The source says that there’s already a smartphone with the new camera setup for testing, and Foxconn has now have to figure out a way to mass produce it. If they are successful, the device can be unveiled later this year.

As fantastic as this news is, treat it as a rumor for now until it’s corroborated by more sources.
