The brand is enjoying a Renaissance
Research firm Counterpoint has revealed that HMD Global’s efforts to revive the Nokia brand is going very well. According to Counterpoint analyst Neil Shah, the company has managed to post phenomenal growth in several key markets and metrics.
Talking about smartphones performance, in Q4 2017, @HMDGlobal sold more Nokia branded phones globally and is now bigger smartphone brand than following individual brands:
HTC
Sony
Alcatel
Lenovo
OnePlus
Gionee
Meizu
Coolpad
Asus— Neil Shah (@neiltwitz) February 12, 2018
From 0% in 2016, HMD Global managed to grow the Nokia brand into the #1 feature phone brand in the world (single-handedly growing the global feature phone market in 2017), as well as take the 11th spot as far as market share goes.
If you combine both smartphone and feature phone verticals, Nokia as a brand is now currently #6 in the world, and shipped more phones than other, more established players. Currently, Nokia has shipped more phones than Sony, HTC, Google, Alcatel, Lenovo, OnePlus, Gionee, Meizu and ASUS worldwide.
