Up for some DIY stuff? HMD has unveiled the Skyline, featuring a design resembling the Nokia N9 and what the brand calls Gen 2 repairability, allowing quick screen or battery replacement at under 10 minutes.
The Skyline is a decent mid-range phone that has features like a 6.5-inch 144hz OLED display, a 50-megapixel selfie camera, a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor, up to 12GB RAM, up to 256GB storage, and a triple rear camera setup that consists of a 108-megapixel main camera with OIS, 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom.Â
The battery itself is a 4600 mAh cell that supports 33W wired and 15W magnetic Qi2 wireless charging, and you also get a customizable button on the side for quick access to apps and features. You’re getting Android 14 out of the box, and HMD promises 2 major Android updates and 3 years of security updates.
While its specs are decent, the main selling point of the Skyline is its repairability, where a single screw allows you to open the back cover to replace components like the screen, charging port, and battery. iFixIt will be supplying the parts and the repair kits.
The HMD Skyline is priced at $499 (~Php 30k)Â and the repairable components are priced as follows:
- Display – $95(~Php 5.6k)
- Battery Cover – $30(~Php 1.8k)
- Battery – $25(~Php 1.5k)
- Charging port – $20(~Php 1.2k)
