HONOR has announced the third generation of its foldable with the Magic V2. Following up with the innovations it made with the Magic Vs, HONOR claims that the Magic V2 is the slimmest foldable at 9.9mm when folded and 4.7mm unfolded, and all at just a weight of 231 grams. For comparison, Xiaomi’s Mix Fold 2 was 262 grams and 11.2mm thick when folded.
To make this possible, HONOR implemented a gearless unibody hinge mechanism on the Magic V2, where they used a 3D-printed titanium alloy cover and custom short screws for the hinge components. HONOR did mention that they used a P2i coating on the Magic V2, though there’s no official IP rating for it.
For the displays, the Magic V2 has a 7.92-inch LTPO OLED foldable display that has a 120hz refresh rate, 2156×2344 resolution, and 3840hz PWM dimming for flicker-free animations. You also get stylus support and a 16-megapixel selfie camera placed in a punch-hole. The cover screen, on the other hand, is a 6.43-inch OLED panel with a 120hz refresh rate and a 2376×1060 resolution. it also supports styluses and has 3840hz PWM dimming as well.
Being a flagship foldable, the Magic V2 is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor with an overclocked Cortex-X3 Prime core at 3.36Ghz (which, again, is the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that was initially exclusive to the Galaxy S23 series). You can avail the Magic V2 with up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage–though the Ultimate version comes with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. Keeping the lights on is a 5000mAh silicon-carbon battery with 66w charging.
For the rear cameras, the Magic V2 has a capable setup that consists of a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS, 50-megapixel ultrawide, and a 20-megapixel telephoto camera with OIS and 2.5x optical zoom.
The Magic V2 in China starts at CNY 8999(~Php 69k) for the 12GB/256GB model and CNY 9999(~Php 77k) for the 12GB/512GB version. The Ultimate variant with 16GB/1TB storage is priced at CNY 11999(~Php 92k). It will be available in China on July 20, and HONOR has yet to give details on global availability.
