HONOR has been quite quiet in the smartphone scene since going independent late last year. The brand has released quite a few phones here and there, focusing heavily on its Play series. In China, HONOR unveiled the Play5, which is its first mid-range 5G phone post-Huawei and for 2021.

While the back panel reminds us of the Nova 7i, the Play5 has a more tapered design and is thinner as well (at 7.46mm) since it has a smaller 3800mAh battery inside. For the rear camera setup, the Play5 shares the same configuration as the Nova 7 SE. That means you are getting a 64-megapixel main camera, 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, 2-megapixel macro camera, and 2-megapixel depth sensor.
In the front, the Play5 gets a 6.53-inch Full HD+ OLED display with a conventional 60hz display, a dewdrop notch for the 16-megapixel selfie snapper, and an in-display fingerprint scanner. Powering the phone is a Dimensity 800U processor that supports dual 5G SIM, and is paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage. You get a fast 66w charging solution that can top up the Play5’s battery to 100% in 35 minutes.
The Play5 comes with Android 10-based MagicUI 4.0 out of the box. The Play5 does not come with Google services–but do remember that Google is generally not available in China.
HONOR Play5 Price
The Play5 is priced at CNY 2100(~Php 15.7k) for the 8GB/128GB model and CNY 2300(~Php 17.2k) for the 8GB/256GB model. The phone will go on sale in China on May 25, and there’s no word yet if HONOR will make the Play5 available outside of China.
