How does vivo Blend Form and Function to its Phones?

Bringing the best of what technology can offer today

With trends such as bigger displays and cleaner designs in the rage these days, it is clear that consumers are looking for phones that go beyond the spec sheet. In fact, they are in the hunt for phones that sport futuristic designs. vivo, for their part, have made significant progress in defining the future of smartphone design.

Here’s a rundown of vivo’s smartphone evolution for 2018:

V9: Embracing the notch

Joining in with other notch-sporting phones, the V9 came with a display sporting a 19:9 aspect ratio. This increased the overall screen estate, even if it meant leaving a cutout for necessary components like the earpiece, sensors, and the front camera. To keep the front sleek, vivo—like other brands, had to move the fingerprint scanner to the back.

X21: A preview of the future

To make itself stand out of the crowd, vivo made a statement with the X21—the first phone sold to the public that is equipped with an in-display fingerprint scanner. Through this tech, the X21 sported a clean rear and a clever fingerprint scanner solution that maintains the user’s natural grip of the phone.

NEX S: Pushing boundaries

In the quest for a notch-free design, vivo became the first manufacturer to launch a true all-screen phone with the NEX S. Aside from having an in-display fingerprint scanner for a sleek and futuristic look, the NEX S boasts of a pop-up front camera that appears only when you needed it.

V11: Best of both worlds

While the NEX S is a sleek device, not everyone is comfortable with the idea of a pop-up camera—not to mention the price one has to pay for such design and innovation. Revisiting the drawing board, vivo figured that the best compromise is by leaving a tiny notch to house the front camera.

While other brands are following the same design cue, what makes vivo’s approach unique is that they managed to tuck  the earpiece, proximity sensor, and IR camera right at the top edge of the phone while keeping the V11’s overall look as sleek as possible.

With four major models for 2018 alone, vivo has made several innovations that shape the future of smartphones. What can they think of for 2019? We will wait and see what vivo has in the works.
