HP’s New Spectre Folio Has A Real Leather Chassis

You haven’t seen anything like this before

We’re currently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for HP’s Home Planet 2018 event where the company has officially announced the Spectre Folio for the South East Asian market. The new device is unique in that it uses real, full-grain leather in its construction much like expensive designer bags and leather goods.

While other manufacturers have released leather-bound notebooks before, the Spectre Folio is different in that the leather isn’t just a cover – it’s integrated into the chassis of the machine, with metal reinforcements inserted into the body at strategic locations to keep it rigid and to provide mounting points for its electronic guts.

The display is 13.3-inch large, and comes in a variety of options up to a high-resolution 4K panel. Because of the design of the notebook’s innards, HP had to use chipmaker Intel’s smallest motherboard for its 8th-generation, Amber Lake-Y processor.

Despite being so thin, the Spectre Folio has three ports composed of two USB Type-C ports and a Thunderbolt port, as well as a 3.5mm jack. The convertible comes with a stylus, has 4G connectivity and comes with either a Core i5 or Core i7 processor. No Philippine pricing or availability has been announced, but we’re hoping HP takes this truly unique convertible to our side of the world.
