Here’s the lowdown on HTC’s upcoming smartphone

Mobile World Congress is coming in a week, and like all previous years the rumor mill is rife with speculation and leaks. Today we’ll be taking rounding up all the leaks on the HTC One M9, codenamed Hima – the company’s upcoming flagship smartphone that’s pegged to be revealed in Barcelona roughly a week from now.

DESIGN

HTC did not diverge from their established design language from the M7 to the M8, so it makes sense that the company stick with the winning formular with the M9. The company also hasn’t changed much of the design – you’re still getting the same rounded design of the M8 with a few tweaks here and there. What HTC has changed this time around is the composition of the metal that they’re using for the M9: they’re apparently using an aluminum silicon-carbide composite, which gives the material a higher tensile strength than just pure aluminum.

OPTICS

HTC has finally seen the light and are ditching the dual-lens, ultra-pixel camera that came with the M8. The company is replacing it with a single camera, 20-megapixel unit. Fans of the ultra-pixel camera shouldn’t despair – HTC isn’t completely abandoning the tech, and have placed it on the front of the device to aid with low-light selfies.

HARDWARE

It’s not hard to guess that the HTC One M9 will ship with Qualcomm’s latest and greatest processor, the octa-core, 2.0GHz Snapdragon 810. Other expected specs include 3GB of RAM, either 32GB or 64GB of memory, LTE as well as an microSD slot to bump up the memory even higher. Early benchmarks of the device are promising, and we’re expecting the M9 to be a monster when it comes to gaming and apps.

DISPLAY

Many people are expecting the HTC One M9 to come with a QHD display, however recent leaks and wallpaper images for the device point to a more sedate full HD display. While this means that the M9 will be below the curve compared to devices like the Galaxy Note 4 and its contemporaries, this also means that the 2900mAh battery will last longer, possibly stretching to two days on a single charge.

PRICING

The HTC One M9 is slated to be priced at around €749 in Germany, which is roughly Php 37549. Of course, if you want the M9, you’ll have to go through online channels like Kimstore to get it, since HTC has no official presence here in the PH.
