HTC Ups Their VR Game With Vive Pro and Vive Wireless Adaptor

It’s a more serious VR rig for companies

HTC has announced a more powerful VR headset in CES today. Meant for corporations and professional users who want the absolute best in terms of VR, the Vive Pro sees a number of improvements from the regular model.

The most apparent is the updated AMOLED display, that now has a combined resolution of 2880 x 1600, 78% denser than what you get from the current model. The higher pixel density should reduce or completely eliminate the “screen door” effect that users experience with the older model.

Aside from the display, HTC has also improved the audio for the Pro model, integrating built-in headphones with their own dedicated amp as well as dual microphones. A redesigned strap allows for more comfortable VR sessions, and a second front-facing camera makes it easier for developers to integrate AR features into the headset.

Also announced by HTC is the Vive Wireless adapter, which allows users to remove the wires from their Vive headsets. No more worrying about tripping over wires while using the Vive, which should make for a more immersive VR experience.

HTC has not announced pricing for both devices, though they said that the Wireless Adaptor will be available come Q3 2018.
