The Mate 10’s incredibly affordable for a flagship phone

This year’s current crop of Android flagships are probably the most expensive in recent memory. It’s not surprising, since top-tier hardware usually commands top-tier pricing, and since many of the currently flagships nowadays have near bezel-less displays and 18:9 panels, prices for these new devices have shot up considerably. Samsung’s top-tier flagship surprised many with its near 50K retail price, which is slated to become the norm for many other devices moving forward.

That makes Huawei’s pricing for their new flagship, the Mate 10, so surprising. At a time when prices for Android flagships regularly go above 40K, the Chinese firm’s 32,990 for the Mate 10 is ridiculous, in a good way. Prior to the announcement of the price for the new phone, we were expecting the Mate 10 to retail close to 40K when it came out – the reality is quite a shocker.

With the Mate 10 being priced so low, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Mate 10 Pro retails below 40K. If that happens, then Huawei’s new phablets are guaranteed to fly off the shelves, and will probably win the company more fans that they already have now.

Huawei’s ambitions to unseat Samsung in the top end is not hard to see, and they’re willing to take a bit of a hit in terms of overall profits for their new flagships to do it.
