HUAWEI has officially unveiled the Mate 70 series in China with four models. The Pro+ and RS versions will be discussed in another article, so we focus here on the Mate 70 and Mate 70 Pro, two models that have a better chance of a possible global launch later on.
The Mate 70 is the smallest of the four with its 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display. It’s also the thinnest as well at 7.8mm thick. The Pro model gets a bigger 6.9-inch LTPO OLED display, and both models come with an IP69 rating, 2500nits peak brightness, and second-generation Kunlun Glass. For selfies, the Mate 70 has a 13-megapixel shooter, while the Pro model adds a 3D Depth camera. While both have OLED displays, they strangely use side-mounted fingerprint scanners.
For the cameras, both models have a 50-megapixel f/1.4-4.0 main camera with OIS, a 40-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a spectral imaging sensor for better color accuracy. The Mate 70 gets a 12-megapixel periscope with 5.5x optical zoom while the Pro model gets a higher-resolution 48-megapixel periscope–albeit with a shorter 4x optical zoom.
The Mate 70 has a 5300mAh battery with support for 66w wired and 50w wireless charging, while the Mate 70 Pro has a 5500mAh battery with support for 100w wired and 80w wireless charging. Both phones come with HarmonyOS 4.3, and HUAWEI did not disclose the processor powering them–which is speculated to be the Kirin 9100.
The HUAWEI Mate 70 starts at CNY 5499(~Php 45k) for the 12GB/256GB model, while the Mate 70 Pro starts at CNY 6499(~Php 53k) for the same variant. Both will go on sale in China on December 4.
