Aside from pushing boundaries with the Mate XT, HUAWEI is implementing groundbreaking engineering with its first foldable laptop called the MateBook Fold Ultimate. Having the footprint of a 13-inch laptop, the MateBook Fold Ultimate unfolds to give you an 18-inch display.
What’s crazy is its thickness: it is 14.9mm when folded, and becomes razor thin at 7.3mm when unfolded, making this laptop as thin as your average phone. To make this possible, HUAWEI used an ultra-thin PCB and a 3-layer aluminum structure to fit everything inside that skinny chassis. You also get two ultra-slim fans and a vapor chamber, and the battery is decently large at 74.69wHr.
As for the display itself, it has a 4:3 aspect ratio when opened and a 3:2 aspect ratio when in laptop mode. The panel is a dual-layer OLED LTPO variety that has 1600nits peak brightness, and is said to be 30% more power efficient. Protecting the display are a carbon fiber support layer and non-Newtonian fluid. The accompanying keyboard is also skinny at 5mm thick and has 1.5mm key travel. It also has a premium build as it is made of aluminum alloy.
HUAWEI didn’t disclose the processor, but you get 32GB RAM and up to 2TB storage, along with two USB-C ports and support for 140w charging. It also boots HarmonyOS instead of the usual Windows.
The MateBook Fold Ultimate is priced at CNY 24,000(~Php 186k) for the 1TB model and CNY 27,000(~Php 209k) for the 2TB model. We don’t know if HUAWEI has plans to make it available globally–but given the limited availability of the Mate XT, there’s a slim chance that the MateBook Fold Ultimate might make it to the global market.
