Is this the new trend in smartphones?

After India-based Karbonn, another phone maker is jumping on the dual-boot smartphone bandwagon. This time around it’s prolific Chinese manufacturer Huawei. In an interview with Trusted Reviews, Huawei’s Chief Marketing Officer, Shao Yang, said that the company is looking at using the multi-OS strategy, but are looking to mix it up with Android and Windows. His reasoning is simple – more people want Android devices rather than Windows devices. By bundling Windows and Android together, users can experience both OS with just one phone.

With Windows Phone, one direction for us – and one that we are now following – is dual OS. Dual OS as in Android and Windows together,” he said.

He adds that the company is targeting shipping their first dual-boot OS devices Q2 of this year. It’s hard to imagine the appeal of the dual-OS strategy on smartphones, but it does open up more apps and another ecosystem for people who want to use Microsoft services and Windows exclusive apps without buying a Windows 8 only smartphone.
