HUAWEI has officially unveiled their new Watch GT 5 Series of wearables today, and these might just be the best gadgets you can have on your wrist. The new wearables come in vanilla and pro versions, with each line sporting both male and female versions of the watch.
Let’s start with the vanilla Watch GT 5. There are two versions available – a 46mm variant and a 41mm variant. Both of these smartwatches sport stainless steel cases, and just like Huawei’s previous watches the Watch GT 5 series comes in a variety of strap designs and colored bezels to suit your style.
The Watch GT 5 Pro is the more interesting of the pair, and like its vanilla brother, it’ll come in two sizes: 46mm and 42mm. While the Watch GT 5 comes in a steel case, the 46mm Watch GT 5 uses aerospace-grade Titanium alloy in both the case and the watch links, making it extremely tough and durable. The 42mm variant also uses titanium in its construction, though Huawei threw in white ceramic in the mix to make the watch look more like a fashion accessory than a gadget you wear on your wrist.
While the vanilla Watch GT 5 looks great on its own, we’re digging into the look of the Watch GT 5 Pro. It has this old-school Seiko Prospex vibe and is easily the nicest-looking smartwatch on the market today.
Aside from killer looks, the new Watch GT 5 Series also sport Huawei’s latest TrueSense system, which the company calls “a new health and fitness paradigm”. The new tech combines data from multiple sensors in smartwatches including respiratory rate, SpO2 (blood oxygen levels), body temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate for a more accurate reading of your body’s metrics.
Huawei is claiming that its new system is so good that the measurements that the system takes are “medical grade”, meaning it’s virtually the same as the ones taken by medical devices in your doctor’s office.
Huawei’s new wearables are also capable of taking stock of your mental well-being, displaying your current status in the form of cute panda watch faces.
While Huawei has continually added new sports features to their wearables, this new batch should be a hit for golfers. The Watch GT 5 Pro has Golf mode which gives golfers an added edge when they’re playing on the green by displaying how the course they’re playing at is laid out, their current distance from the green, how strong the wind is and where it’s blowing, as well as where the hole is relative to their current location.
The watch can even give you tips on your swing and detect your backswing time, downswing time, swing tempo, and swing speed—essential when you’re out practicing at the driving range.
Huawei is also promising that their new wearables, including previous generations, will get GCash functionality via cashless, touchless QR payments on customer’s wrists. This new feature will be dropping via a software update this Q4.
The Watch GT 5 and Watch GT 5 Pro also get a keyboard now, so you can reply to chats and messages straight from the watch if your phone is out of reach.
As for battery life, the 46mm versions of the Watch GT 5 and Watch GT 5 Pro still get 14 days of battery life, while the 41mm Watch GT 5 and the 42mm Watch GT 5 Pro get 7 days of estimated battery life.
No local price has been set as of yet for these new wearables, though Huawei is opening up pre-orders for them come September 26, which will last until October 3.
