Infinix is making waves on the budget scene with the HOT 50 Pro+ as one of the slimmest budget phones in recent memory. With a thickness of just 6.8mm, the HOT 50 Pro+ is a skinny phone that’s a unicorn in the under Php 10k segment. Going for the skinny route would be challenging for the HOT 50 Pro+ when it comes to gaming. However, Infinix claims that the HOT 50 Pro+ can handle gaming just fine with its MediaTek Helio G100 processor.
Is this skinny budget phone good enough for gaming? We tested the HOT 50 Pro+ with four games to find out its gaming chops:
Honor of Kings
Infinix promotes the HOT 50 Pro+ for Honor of Kings, which is very evident with the outer sleeve of its packaging. The HOT 50 Pro+ does deliver as a budget phone for gaming: at Ultra Resolution with High FPS enabled, it was able to run Honor of Kings with an average FPS of 57.746, with temperatures within tolerable range at 41.9 degrees Celsius. Temperatures are within a tolerable range, so you’ll have no problem gaming on the HOT 50 Pro+ even with multiple matches.
PUBG Mobile
PUBG Mobile is another popular title among mobile gamers, and it is just apt that we put the HOT 50 Pro+ to the test with this popular battle royale game. With graphics set to HD and FPS set to High, we were doing an average FPS of 28.776 with temperatures peaking at 41.5 degrees Celsius. That makes the HOT 50 Pro+ good enough for PUBG Mobile especially if you engage yourself in a match that lasts 30 minutes or more.
Genshin Impact
Things get challenging with Genshin Impact, as the open-world RPG is known to be demanding. This title put the HOT 50 Pro+ to the test in terms of thermals, as its slim body leaves little space for components to manage thermals efficiently. Based on our tests, the HOT 50 Pro+ performs best when setting the FPS cap to 30 and keeping graphics up to Medium. At this setting, we got an average FPS of 25.067, with peak temperatures reaching as high as 46.7 degrees Celsius. That may be a bit uncomfortable, but to the HOT 50 Pro+’s credit, the phone didn’t feel alarmingly hot, and the graphs on our gaming benchmark tools show that it manages to bring those temps down to below 44 degrees Celsius after less than a minute.
Honkai: Star Rail
Just like Genshin Impact, this Hoyoverse title is also demanding despite being a turn-based game. Mirroring the results we got in Genshin Impact, it is best to use Medium graphics and 30FPS mode with the HOT 50 Pro+ to enjoy decent gameplay. Based on our gameplay, we got an average FPS of 23.443, which is within the bare minimum for a mobile game to be playable. Temperatures peaked at 42.1 degrees Celsius, which is around the tolerable range for serious gaming, especially with long sessions.
Wuthering Waves
This game is also known to be demanding and is another popular open-world RPG among mobile gamers. It has roughly the same demands as Genshin Impact, do this also made us curious how the HOT 50 Pro+ will perform. Playing Wuthering Waves at Low graphics, we got an average FPS of 25.541, making the HOT 50 Pro+ good enough to run the game. Peak temperatures reached 45 degrees Celsius, but the HOT 50 Pro+ managed to bring it down to 42 degrees Celsius in around 30 seconds.
Final Thoughts
The idea of gaming on a skinny phone can be a daunting task given the limited space you can allot for components to manage thermals efficiently. Despite those limitations, the HOT 50 Pro+ was able to pull through nicely. Even if temps did reach as high as 47 degrees Celsius, it was able to bring them down quickly in less than a minute without throttling issues. Along with niceties like a 120hz curved AMOLED display and a 5000mAh battery with 33w charging, the HOT 50 Pro+ also fits the bill as a budget phone that can game.
