With Apple kicking off the first sales of its iPhone 16 and 16 Pro series a few days ago, it seems that some users are facing problems with the touchscreen functionality of the iPhone 16 Pro. According to a Reddit post, it seems that the iPhone 16 Pro fails to register some swipes and taps with both iOS 18 and 18.1.
While the touchscreen issue of the iPhone 16 Pro is not a hardware problem, some users report that it might have to do with iOS’ palm rejection algorithm especially since the affected areas are around the screen edges and the portion near Apple’s new Camera Control button. The issue does not occur when the phone is locked, further confirming that it is more of a software issue.
The aggressive palm rejection may be tied to the iPhone 16 Pro having extremely thin bezels, and one of the effective workarounds is using the phone with a case so that you’ll be less likely to touch the screen’s edges.
Knowing Apple, we expect them to roll out a software update to calibrate the iPhone 16 Pro’s palm rejection algorithm–similar to what it did with the iPhone 15 Pro, where they had to adjust the performance of the A17 Pro to prevent it from overheating.
