Here’s some bad new if you’re an Apple fan: if the iPhone 16e and the rest of the iPhone 16 series is already expensive for you, new reports indicate that the iPhone 17 series will be more expensive. Also interesting is that the price hike has nothing to do with the controversial tariffs US President Donald Trump plans to implement.
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the iPhone 17 series will be more expensive because Apple will be adding new features and design updates to it. Apple wants to avoid any speculation that the price hike is linked to US tariffs because China is an important hub for Apple for the majority of its products. Early reports indicate that iPhones might be up to 40% more expensive if Apple chose to pass the additional expenses to customers due to the tariffs.
The higher end Pro and Pro Max variants will continue production in China, but Apple CEO Tim Cook is looking to manufacture iPhones in India for the US market. While India can produce the Pro and Pro Max models, Apple thinks that the country lacks the infrastructure and technical expertise for manufacturing at a large scale. That being said, iPhones produced in India might start off with the non-Pro models.
