Is HMD Global Bringing Back the Nokia N9?

Said mystery phone was spotted at KaiOS’ booth in CES 2019

HMD Global has enjoyed success in resurrecting iconic Nokia models. Under its belt, the Nokia 3310 and Nokia 8110 4G enjoyed positive reception, especially to die-hard Nokia fans.

HMD Global may be resurrecting another Nokia phone soon. At KaiOS’ booth in CES 2019, a yet-unidentified phone—which looks like the Nokia N9—is spotted in between the Nokia 8110 4G and Reliance JioPhone.

The alleged Nokia N9 reborn placed in between the 8110 4G and Reliance JioPhone, both powered by KaiOS.

The said photo, which was posted on KaiOS’ Facebook page, had people wondering if HMD has plans of resurrecting the Nokia N9 anytime soon. Launched in 2011, the Nokia N9 is a touchscreen phone powered by MeeGo OS—a Linux-based operating system that is related to Samsung’s Tizen OS. It came with 1Ghz processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 8-megapixel Carl Zeiss rear camera, and a 3.9-inch AMOLED display—impressive specs during its heyday.

There’s still debate whether the Nokia N9 reborn will come with KaiOS since its current iteration does not support touch displays. But then, KaiOS might be working on one that supports touch displays, and the Nokia N9 reborn will be the first device to use it.
