As its latest compact rugged speaker, the Flip 7 can weather the elements while giving you a great audio soundstage expecially with the improved tuning using JBL’s Signature Sound. You also get support for AAC codecs, allowing you to stream audio at higher bit rates. That’s a nice feature to have especially if you’re like me who streams audio at higher bit rates.

What’s nice about the Flip 7 is that it is both drop proof and waterproof with an IP68 rating without needing a flap to cover its USB-C port. You also get a nice party trick at the back, where you can swap between a finger loop or a carabiner hook to make it easier to bring the Flip 7 anywhere depending on your needs. You can also choose to not put any attachments at the back for a clean, minimalist look. You have 9 colorways to choose from, and this red one has the classic JBL colors.

So how’s the sound quality? I’ve played a couple of my favorite KPop tracks from I-DLE, Le Sserafim, NMIXX, and Itzy, and they all sound great on the Flip 7. The bass was not as overpowering as expected with the JBL Signature EQ preset, and the mids and highs are audible with minimal distorion. AI Sound Boost also helps in maintaining the top-notch audio quality of the Flip 7 even if you crank up the volume with little to no distortion.

Using them as my desk speaker, I kept the volume at around 40-50%, and they are loud enough for my needs. I can’t say much for battery life, but my battery went down to 50% (from the time I unboxed it, which was at 60%). after playing hours of music, which means that JBL’s claimed 16 hours of battery life holds true.
