This isn’t a watered-down flagship

When other companies make smaller versions of their smartphones, they usually water down the specifications with it, and slap a mini tag at the end for good measure. Sony doesn’t want any of that, however, set out to make a more compact version of their flagship Xperia Z1 with almost the same hardware that’s present in the original. The result is the Xperia Z1 Compact – a more compact version of their Z1 flagship that’s handier and easier to carry with the same powerful hardware that made the original such a great smartphone.

  • 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 processor
  • 16GB internal storage, with microSD card support for up to 64 GB
  • 2GB RAM
  • 4.3-inch TRILUMINOS HD IPS display, 1280×720 pixels
  • 1/2.3-inch 20.7MP Exmor RS CMOS image sensor with 27mm wide angle and bright F2.0 aperture
  • IP55/58 dust and water resistance
  • Android 4.4 Kit Kat
  • 2,300 mAh battery

As you can see in the specs, the only thing that’s changed in the Z1 Compact is its screen size and battery, plus the additional color options that Sony has thrown in. The Z1 Compact has a 4.3-inch display that has a smaller 720P resolution as opposed to the Z1’s 1080P. The battery is now a 2,300 mAh deal as opposed to the 3,000 mAh in the larger version. The Z1 Compact is still IP58 water resistant (yay) and still sports the hefty 20.7 megapixel camera that shipped with the original Z1. More color options will be available as well – you will be able to pick up the Z1 Compact in White, Red, Black and Yellow.

The Z1 Compact will become available in the middle of February (in the US at least).
