Microsoft to End Windows 7 Extended Support by 2020

End of an era

If you have computers still running Windows 7, here’s some sad news: Microsoft announced that it is ending extended support for Windows 7 on January 14, 2020, which is one year from now. Those using Windows 8.1, on the other hand, have until 2023 to enjoy extended support from Microsoft.

This move is part of Microsoft’s efforts to encourage PC users to upgrade to Windows 10, which is free as long as you have a valid Windows 7 license and that your computer meets these requirements.

While you can still run Windows 7 after the end of extended support, one will become more vulnerable to security risks. Visit Microsoft’s Windows lifecycle fact sheet to know more.
