Motorola Moto G5s Plus Hands On, Quick Review: Motorola’s Latest Dual-Cam Contender

Dual Cameras and Vanilla Android make a good combo

With brands releasing smartphones with dual cameras (and sometimes, quad cameras), Motorola does not want to be left behind with the ongoing trend. That being said, it has launched its first dual-cam offering locally with the Moto G5s Plus. Being marketed as a mid-range device, the Moto G5s Plus is Motorola’s contender for this saturated and competitive market segment. Does it have what it takes to be a great offering from the legendary phone brand? Here’s a quick look at its spec sheet.

Premium Familiar Moto aesthetic

If you have come across the Moto Z2 Play, you’ll notice that the Moto G5s Plus shares a few similar design aesthetics with its more expensive sibling, save for the set of pins for Moto Mods. In the Moto G5s Plus, you have your antenna bands on the top and the bottom portion. The central camera module sports a dual 13-megapixel f/2.0 setup with a dual tone LED flash right below it. Like the Moto Z2 Play, the Moto G5s Plus has a significant camera protrusion, so it is highly recommended to use a case for it.

The button layout is also similar with the Moto Z2 Play. You have your power and volume control buttons on the right side.

You have your MicroUSB port, microphone, and speaker, at the bottom of the phone.

Yes, the Moto G5s Plus has a headphone jack, which is found on top of the phone.

As for the front, the G5s Plus has a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Upon first impression, the panel used on the G5s Plus renders colors vibrantly, along with deep blacks.

Aside from using stock Android, the Moto G5s Plus’ key highlight is its dual rear cameras. With Motorola’s camera UI, you get a good set of camera features like Depth Mode, Professional Mode, and customizable backgrounds. Pair that with a Snapdragon 625 processor and 4GB RAM, the Moto G5s Plus is one speedy device. While we have yet done benchmark tests on it, our initial use of the Moto G5s Plus has been smooth and flawless, especially when it comes to multitasking.

The Moto G5s Plus inherits some of the features of the Moto Z like Moto Display and Moto Actions, giving a nice touch to the stock Android Nougat it comes with it. Like Motorola’s recent devices, expect the Moto G5s Plus to be upgraded to Android Oreo in the near future.

That’s all for our quick review of the Moto G5s Plus, which is available today at Php 14,999. We are waiting for our review unit to evaluate further if the Moto G5s Plus is a great mid-range device to consider.
