Home automation without the hassle
Google’s event tonight may be all about the hardware, but it’s also giving Nest a whole lotta lovin’ by giving the home automation company more access to their machine learning tech as well as Google Home. For example, the company’s connected wireless doorbell is now powered by the company’s machine learning software, which can quickly recognize anyone in front of your door automagically. If it doesn’t, it can throw the image up to your TV via Google Chromecast so you can check who your visitor is.
Nest’s Cam also gets AI smarts, and you can pull up areas that the cameras are in by simply saying where they’re at. Saying “Google, show me the driveway” will pull up the camera that’s in your driveway on your Chromecast-connected TV, doing away with having to cycle through the cameras by hand. Nests’ products will also be able to use Routines, so phrases like “it’s time to go to bed” tells Nest-connected products to dim the lights, turn up (or turn down, depending where you are) the A/C, for example.
