CrackBerry, a BlackBerry enthusiast blog, brings word of a supposed BB handset in the pipeline, designed for emerging markets like Indonesia, the Philippines, and India.
Codenamed BBC100-1, the smartphone allegedly comes from PT BB Merah Putih, a joint venture between BlackBerry and PT Tiphone Mobile Indonesia Tbk, a local telecommunication company with the largest distribution network in Indonesia. The agreement, in cooperation with the Indonesian government, enables the company to “source, distribute and promote” BB-branded devices running on Android OS.
Roland Quandt, a device leakster on Twitter, recently posted the specs of the supposed BBC100-1, further fueling the rumors of the phone’s existence. As for its legitimacy, well, we’ll have to see whether the handset will make an appearance at the upcoming MWC 2017 in Spain.
