While we already know that the OnePlus 12 is expected to global, the brand’s launch last January 23 in India also included the OnePlus 12R being made available globally as well. This makes the OnePlus 12 series to officially have two models in the global market.

So what makes the OnePlus 12R a “more affordable” version of the regular OnePlus 12?

Despite looking similar design-wise, the 12R doesn’t get the Hasselblad branding of its more expensive sibling, which explains its modest camera setup: 50-megapixel IMX890 with OIS for the main camera, 8-megapixel ultra-wide, and (unfortunately) a 2-megapixel macro camera. The 12R’s toned-down camera setup also results with its camera module being smaller than the standard 12.

The 12R is slightly smaller with its 6.78-inch 120hz curved AMOLED display. Despite that, it has a slightly larger 5500mAh battery that also supports 100w charging. However, the 12R does not support wireless charging.

The last difference is with the internals: the OnePlus 12 has the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, while the 12R settles for the previous-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that’s still powerful for 2024 standards. Both cap out at 16GB of RAM, while the standard 12 can be outfitted with as much as 512GB storage.

With those differences, the OnePlus 12R is approximately Php 12k more affordable than the 12GB/256GB OnePlus 12 variant. With a planned wider availability this time around, the 12R is set to position itself as an affordable alternative to the OnePlus 12. It remains to be seen, however, if OnePlus Philippines will bring over both models.
