The OnePlus 5T loses the optical zoom lens for better low-light performance
While the official release date of the OnePlus 5T is still a few days away, that hasn’t stopped leaks from showing the new phone’s externals, innards and performance from surfacing. The latest leak to come pits the camera of the OnePlus 5T against the OnePlus 5. Here’s the Cliff Notes: the OnePlus 5T doesn’t have a telephoto lens like the OnePlus 5, replaced by a camera that’s tuned to take better photos with low light compared to the previous flagship.

This photo shows the general image quality of both phones, with the OnePlus 5T’s result on the left and the OnePlus 5 on the right. The first image was shot under 1100 lux, and the OnePlus 5T shot the image with 125 ISO while the OnePlus 5 shot it at 200 ISO.

The next image was shot under 3 lux, dim lighting for sure. The OnePlus 5T switches to its dedicated low-light camera to take this shot.

Despite the OnePlus 5T not having a dedicated zoom lens, it’s still capable of taking good detail even with digital zoom.
