The OnePlus 9R is the Spiritual Successor of the OnePlus 8T

The OnePlus 9R is the Spiritual Successor of the OnePlus 8T

While the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro flexes OnePlus’ partnership with Hasselblad, the brand also launched a third, non-Hasselblad-branded variant with the OnePlus 9R in India–which serves as the spiritual successor to the OnePlus 8T.

OnePlus 9R Specs:

  • Snapdragon 870 processor
  • 8GB/12GB LPDDR5 RAM
  • 128GB/256GB UFS 3.1 storage
  • 6.55-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display, 120hz refresh rate, 240hz touch sampling rate, HDR10+
  • 48-megapixel f/1.8 Sony IMX 586 main camera with OIS, 16-megapixel f/2.2 Sony IMX 481 ultra-wide-angle camera, 5-megapixel f/2.4 macro camera, 2-megapixel f/2.4 mono camera
  • 32-megapixel f/2.4 selfie camera
  • 3G, 4G, 5G
  • WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, in-display fingerprint scanner
  • Stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos
  • 4500mAh battery
  • 65w wired charging
  • Android 11, OxygenOS 11

The OnePlus 9R shares a lot of similarities with the OnePlus 8T: you also get the same quad-rear camera setup (48-megapixel main with OIS, 8-megapixel ultra-wide, 5-megapixel macro, 2-megapixel depth sensor), along with the same 4500mAh battery with 65w wired charging and a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with a fast 120hz refresh rate. The biggest difference between the two–aside from the back panel design that is close to the main OnePlus 9 series sans Hasselblad branding–is that you get a Snapdragon 870 processor.

The Snapdragon 870 is an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 865 found on the OnePlus 8T, boasting a class-leading 3.2Ghz clock speed, making the most affordable OnePlus 9 variant ideal for heavy gaming. Since it positions itself as a gaming phone, you get vapor chamber cooling to keep the Snapdragon 870’s temps stable under heavy loads.

OnePlus 9R Price

Unlike the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, the 9R will be exclusive to India, so there’s little chance that it will be available globally. It will be available on April 14 for INR 40,000(~Php 26.7k) for the 8GB/128GB model and INR 44,000(~Php 29.5k) for the 12GB/256GB model.

Despite being exclusive to India, there’s a slim chance that it will be made available in other Asian markets like the Nord.
