After revealing its current crop of next-gen camera tech a few days ago, OPPO revealed that it is working on a magnetic wireless charging solution with MagVOOC. This follows realme’s announcement of its MagDart solution, and it does not come as a surprise since both brands are under the BBK umbrella.
How different is MagVOOC from MagDart? To start things off, OPPO demonstrated three MagVOOC products: a 40w charging stand, 20w slim charger, and a 4500mAh power bank with 20w MagVOOC charging. For comparison, realme revealed a 50w and 15w MagDart chargers during its announcement.
In its demo, the 40w MagVOOC standing charger can charge supported phones like the Ace2 in less than an hour with 40w MagVOOC magnetic wireless charging. Other phones like the Find X3 will support wireless charging for up to 30w, while non-MagVOOC-supporting phones can be charged for up to 15w via Qi charging standards. The 20w slim MagVOOC charger, on the other hand, is much smaller and can wirelessly charge devices that support Qi charging standards at up to 10w.
The power bank has a 4500mAh battery inside and supports up to 20w MagVOOC charging, Qi charging for aIoT products, and 10w USB-C charging. Topping up the power bank takes around 2 hours using a USB-C cable.
Unlike with MagDart, OPPO does not have a definite date as to when it will implement MagVOOC to its future phones.
Beyond their magnetic wireless charging solution, OPPO also demonstrated its bleeding-edge AirVOOC charging that can transfer up to 7.5W of power to a phone–but with a few caveats that include AirVOOC only working at a certain distance and specific angles. Like MagVOOC, there’s no definite date when OPPO will implement AirVOOC on its phones.
