The Best Flagship for 2024: OPPO Find X8 Review

The Best Flagship for 2024: OPPO Find X8 Review

Review Verdict: The OPPO Find X8 might look a lot like an iPhone, but don’t let that stop you from checking it out for yourself. The cameras are insanely good, their performance is top-notch, and the insanely long battery life is just icing on the cake.

Pros

  • Great camera performance
  • Flagship processor
  • Insanely long battery life for a flagship
  • Alert slider is the best, full stop
  • Price is very competitive for what you’re getting

Cons

  • Looks like the iPhone
  • The camera module is huge

OPPO has finally brought its Find X flagship back to the Philippines, and what a comeback it is. The Find X is a fantastic phone in every perceivable metric, and the only bone I have to pick with OPPO about it is the fact that they’re not bringing over the other versions of the phone here. The vanilla Find X is the only one you get, but don’t think for a second that that’s a consolation prize.

OPPO Find X8 Review Philippines: Design

Let’s talk about the most controversial part of the Find X8: its design. There’s no getting around it–the phone looks a lot like an iPhone. From the flat display to the flat aluminum sides, the phone has an uncanny resemblance to Apple’s phones, to the point that it’s called the O Phone by its detractors in China.

But don’t think for a second that means the phone looks bad–it’s the opposite–the flat aluminum sides and screen show off the brand’s manufacturing capabilities, something that you instantly feel when you pick up the phone.

Another thing that I like is the fact that OPPO adapted the three-position alert slider that was only previously found on OnePlus devices, as someone who constantly has to change my notification settings when I’m taking meetings, or when I’m shooting videos, having a way to quickly switch from one setting to another via a physical key is a godsend.

All the comparisons with the iPhone disappear when you look at the phone’s back. The rear is dominated by a huge camera bump that prominently features the name of their imaging partner Hasselblad. This isn’t the first phone to use such a massive camera bump (and it’s not going to be the last) and I’ve come to begrudgingly tolerate phones that have it.

Since this is a flagship phone, you’re getting all the trimmings that accompany devices like these. Things like an IP68 rating, wireless fast charging capabilities, and stereo speakers are all things you can expect from the Find X8.

OPPO Find X8 Review Philippines: Display

As far as screen size goes, you’re looking at a 6.59-inch display that uses an AMOLED panel that has a 120Hz refresh rate, maximum brightness of 4500 nits, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+.

It’s a flagship display through and through, and you’re getting gorgeous blacks, colors that pop, and fantastic image quality no matter what you’re watching. There is nothing to complain about the display on this phone. You won’t have to worry about the display cracking or scratching unnecessarily too, since the phone has Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.

OPPO Find X8 Review Philippines: Camera

Hasselblad’s previous smartphone outings in the Philippines left a lot to be desired, but to be fair we only had OnePlus’ implementation of it since the Find X7 was not made available locally. This year though it looks like OPPO has found the magic formula for the Find X8.

All of the cameras on the Find X8 capture images via 50-megapixel sensors, which is impressive on its face. The main camera is paired with a f/1.8 aperture lens plus PDAF and OIS. The telephoto camera meanwhile has a 3x optical zoom lens with an f/2.6 aperture, while the ultrawide camera has an f/2.0 deal.

Aside from Hasselblad’s software improvements, OPPO also stuffed this phone with a lot of AI tech. And we’re not talking about AI stuff that’s there to pad the brochure either–we’re talking about practical AI features that help you take great photos. Aside from computational photography that allows for shots like the above to happen (notice how well-defined Heart’s photo is despite being in front of one of the brightest LED displays we’ve seen) you’re also looking at AI removal for unwanted people in your shots, removal of reflections when you’re shooting through glass, unblurring blurred photos and even enhancing some of the details so images pop more.

The Find X8 is capable of shooting incredible photos in situations where potato quality output was what I expected, which makes it one of my favorite flagship phones so far this year in terms of image quality.

OPPO Find X8 review Philippines: Performance

The OPPO Find X8 is technically not the first phone to come with MediaTek’s 9400 processor (that title goes to fellow BBK brand Vivo and their X200) but it’s the first device with this processor to arrive in the Philippines. And before all the haters start typing whatever it is that MediaTek haters write, the new crop of flagship processors from the Taiwanese chipset brand are completely different animals compared to processors past.

The MediaTek 9400 is capable of slugging it out with Qualcomm’s best when it comes to raw performance, benchmarks, and gaming performance. OPPO didn’t compromise with their professor’s choice–they picked the best.

Those performance numbers also don’t come with the poor power efficiency that MediaTek’s processors are known for. Quite the opposite–we got more than 16 hours of battery life on a single charge via the PCMark Battery test, which is record-breaking for a high-performance chipset from the brand. MediaTek has truly turned things around.

If there’s one thing I’m going to hit OPPO for is that they capped fast charging at 80w, which is still fast mind you–just not as fast as we expected since similar flagships are pushing 100w at that price point. I feel that OPPO is pulling their punches in order to bump the specs of the Pro variant, but that’s just me.

Software-wise you’re looking at ColorOS 15 and Android 15, with OPPO promising at least 5 years of software and security updates for their flagship.

OPPO Find X8 Review Philippines: Wrap-up and Verdict

It’s been 4 years since OPPO brought their Find X smartphone to the Philippines, and the brand is coming back with a bang. The OPPO Find X8 is my pick for the best Android flagship for 2025, and I’m sure that my fellow reviewers will agree. It comes with flagship pricing, but with all the things that come with it, it’s well worth the price. This is a value-packed flagship that you just can’t ignore.

OPPO Find X8 Review Philippines: Price

The Find X8 is priced at Php 54,999.
