OPPO Unveils Reno5 Series

As part of wrapping up 2020, OPPO unveiled the Reno5 series with the Reno5 and Reno5 Pro. Both phones boast 90Hz Full HD+ OLED displays, 5G connectivity, 4300mAh batteries, and fast 65w wired charging.

Both phones also come in 8GB/128GB and 12GB/256GB variants and also have the same camera setup: 32-megapixel selfie snapper and a quad-rear camera setup that comprises of a 64-megapixel f/1.7 main camera with EIS, 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a pair of 2-megapixel cameras: one for macro shots, and one for depth sensing.

As for the design, OPPO added a fluorescent coating to the camera bump and parts of the frame so that they glow in the dark. In addition, their glass backs have an etched pattern of microscopic pyramids to make them fingerprint resistant.

So what’s different between the two?

  • Processor and RAM type. The Reno5 uses a Snapdragon 765G processor and 2133mhz LPDDR4X RAM, while the Reno5 Pro opts for a Dimensity 1000+ processor and a faster 3722mhz LPDDR4X RAM.
  • Display. The vanilla model settles for a flat 6.43-inch display, while the Pro model gets a curved 6.55-inch panel. In addition, the Pro model has a brighter display at 500 nits–compared to 430 nits on the vanilla model.
  • Wireless connectivity. Because of the Pro’s internals, you get NFC and WiFi 6 on board. On the other hand, the vanilla model loses both (it supports WiFi 5 only) in exchange for a headphone jack.

The Reno5 is priced at CNY 2700(~Php 19.9k) for the 8GB/128GB model and CNY 3000(~Php 22.1k) for the 12GB/256GB model, while the Reno5 Pro is priced at CNY 3400(~Php 25k) for the 8GB/128GB variant and CNY 3800(~Php 28k) for the 12GB/256GB variant.

OPPO’s Reno5 announcements do not stop there, as it revealed that the Reno5 Pro+ is coming on December 24. According to reports, the Reno5 Pro+ will get a Snapdragon 865 processor and a higher-end rear camera setup consisting of a 50-megapixel IMX766 main camera, 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, 13-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 2-megapixel macro camera, along with a bigger 4500mAh battery.
