Roughly a few months after the global Reno3 was unveiled, OPPO maintains its fast-paced product cycle with the impending launch global Reno4. The fourth-generation Reno gets a more premium look while maintaining the core design DNA of its predecessor. We managed to snag ourselves a review device thanks to the brand, and while we’re still a few days away from showing off its innards in its full glory, we made this short initial impression of the device today. Familiar design with a twist

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, and like with the Reno3, the Reno4 still sports a curved, polycarbonate back panel that’s incredibly ergonomic. New for the Reno4 is the frosted finish that looks and feels like glass, making it a little bit more premium than its predecessor.

The camera bump is bigger now, with one of the three huge modules housing the 48-megapixel f/1.7 IMX586 main camera.

Like its predecessor, you get the same port layout: volume controls and SIM tray on the left side, power button on the right side, and a headphone jack, USB-C port, and loudspeaker at the bottom.

Flagship-grade cameras on board

Like its predecessor, the Reno4’s 48-megapixel main rear camera has a few tricks up its sleeve, including an improved version of OPPO’s Ultra Steady Video. The latest iteration lets you shoot gimbal-like stabilized video at Full HD resolution. Here’s a sample footage taken using Ultra Steady Video:

Aside from Ultra Steady Video, the Reno4 is capable of shooting 4K video at 30FPS and Full HD and HD video at up to 60FPS. For Slo-mo video, you can choose between 120FPS and 480 FPS for Full HD resolution, and 240FPS and 960FPS at HD resolution. The Reno4’s 960FPS Slo-mo video features smart motion detection—this feature lets you capture scenes like smoke dispersal and fire lighting at the right moment.

Accompanying the 48-megapixel main rear camera is a 32-megapixel f/2.4 IMX616 selfie snapper that can shoot slo-mo videos at up to 240FPS on HD resolution (up to 120FPS on Full HD). Here are some sample shots using the Reno4’s selfie and main rear cameras:
