P40 Series Rumored to Come with WiFi 6+ Support

A variation of WiFi 6?

While there are a number of devices (routers included) that have support for WiFi 6 (the Galaxy S10 series being the first phones to support the new standard), Huawei is reportedly working on an in-house solution for the upcoming P40 series using WiFi 6+.

The new WiFi protocol will be announced on February 24, together with the rumored Mate XS foldable. Details about WiFi 6+ remain unclear, though Huawei Vice President for Mobile Li Xiaolong claims that while WiFi 6 can reach theoretical download speeds of 1200mbps, current devices supporting WiFi 6 have only achieved 900mbps. Xiaolong also adds that Wifi 6 is slower than tech found on the 2018 Mate 20.

Based on previous certification documents, the said modem will be known as Hisilicon Hi1105—a Wifi and Bluetooth chip that has support for WiFi 6+. We should know more about it when Huawei holds its online-only press conference tomorrow.
