All three ROG Phone 5 devices will come packing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 processor (naturally) as well as their Elite Gaming technology. There’s a new cooling system here as well, dubbed GameCool 5, which utilizes a 6000mAh split battery configuration to distribute the heat around the chassis of the phone for better thermal efficiency. This is paired with a re-shaped vapor chamber and graphite sheet sandwich to spread heat across the phone and not concentrate it in the middle. That cooling solution also comes in handy with the 65W HyperCharge capability of the phone.

The phone’s new AeroActive Cooler 5 has also been redesigned to deliver up to 10 degrees Celcius reduction in thermals, which is good news though globally only the Pro and Ultimate variants of the phone will be getting one free in the retail box. The AeroActive Cooler 5 also sports two additional physical buttons that you can map for games as well.

The display has been upgraded as well, as you’re looking at a 6.78-inch 2448 x 1080 Samsung-made AMOLED panel with 144Hz refresh rate as well as a 300Hz touch sampling rate. There are other premium specs here as well: Delta-E <1 color accuracy, 1,200 peak brightness as well as HDR10 and HDR10+ certification. The display is protected by Corning’s toughest glass protection yet, Gorilla Glass Victus.

There are a few things that set the ROG variants apart: the ROG Phone Pro and Ultimate comes with a new, rear matrix display that allows users to display animations on the back in response to system and in-game events. While the virtual side buttons are present on all variants, the ROG Phone Pro and Ultimate get two additional ultrasonic buttons on the back of the phone as well, adding to an already impressive array of physical controls.

The ROG Phone Ultimate has the most RAM of any phone announced so far this year, sporting an absolutely massive 18GB of LPDDR5 RAM as well as 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. There’s a slight overlap in hardware for both the vanilla variant and the Phone 5 Pro – both phones have configs that sport up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, but only the Pro variant gets 512GB of storage like the Ultimate – the vanilla variant gets a maximum of 256GB of storage.

The phone comes with its own set of accessories much like the previous generation device, though ASUS has allowed some measure of backward-compatibility for previous accessories from the ROG Phone 3.
