Xiaomi is Exploring Batteries as Big as 7500mAh in Phones

With mainstream phones offering up to 120w charging, brands are finding ways to balance both fast charging speeds and longer battery life. realme managed to strike a balance with the GT 6, where it was able to put a 5500mAh battery inside while supporting 120w charging at the same time. Xiaomi, for their part, is exploring bigger batteries for its future devices according to Digital Chat Station.

Digital Chat Station shared the different combinations Xiaomi is working on at its R&D Center in Naning Science and Technology Park in China. Here’s the breakdown:

Battery Capacity Charging Speed Full Charge Time
5000mAh 120w 18 minutes
5500mAh 100w 34 minutes
6000mAh 120w 30 minutes
6500mAh 100w 49 minutes
7000mAh 120w 40 minutes
7500mAh 100w 63 minutes

With 5000mAh and 120w as their baseline, Xiaomi is exploring bigger batteries while maintaining its popular 120w charging solution. It is exploring batteries as big as 7500mAh, where a full charge takes a little over an hour with its 100w charging  solution. If they opt to maintain 120w charging, their best result is with a 7000mAh battery, which took 40 minutes to a full charge.

While Xiaomi did explore the possibility of 300w charging last year, their research for bigger batteries in phones goes along with the recent trend. HONOR has its silicon-carbon batteries on some of its phones like the 200 series, while the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro has a 6100mAh battery that supports 100w charging. vivo is also setting standards for foldable devices as well, with its X Fold3 having a 5500mAh battery that supports 80w charging.
