The Snapdragon 865 has a separate 5G modem
At Qualcomm’s annual Snapdragon Tech Summit, the San Diego-based brand unveiled two new mid-range processors with the Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 765G. Both silicon comes integrated with a Snapdragon X52 multi-mode 5G modem with support for both mmWave and Sub-6GHz bands.
Qualcomm has yet to reveal the hardware details of the Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 765G, but a slide revealed that both will have an Adreno 620 GPU, Hexagon 696 DSP, and Spectra 355 ISP.
On the other hand, the Snapdragon 865 is Qualcomm’s 2020 flagship processor and unlike the Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 765G, you will need a separate Snapdragon X50 modem(specifically a second-generation one) for the Snapdragon 865 to have support for 5G. Unlike the Snapdragon 855, The Verge reports that all Snapdragon 865-equipped phones will support 5G.
In the same event, Xiaomi Co-Founder & Vice Chairman of the Board Bin Lin confirmed that the Mi 10 flagship will be one of the first phones to use a Snapdragon 865 processor. While it is to early to speculate the key specs of the Mi 10, we expect it to have a 108-megapixel main rear camera.
On the other hand, Motorola and Nokia confirmed that it will be introducing phones with Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 865 processors next year.
