Qualcomm Unveils the Snapdragon 450 SoC

There’s a New Mid-Ranged Proccie In Town

Mobile World Congress Shanghai is in full swing. While we’ve already seen some of the most exciting releases in Barcelona from earlier this year, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t news worthy tidbits.

With that in mind, it looks like we’re going to be seeing a new mid-ranged processor in town, as Qualcomm has just pulled the wraps off the Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor.

As you may know, the Snapdragon 400 series has been the go-to SoC for most of the top-selling mid-ranged smartphones with the Snapdragon 435 being the latest one prior to this release. The 14nm finfet Snapdragon 450 will, of course, be a major improvement on this 435 with Qualcomm saying that it will be 25% better than its predecessor at both compute and graphics performance.

While its more powerful than the Snapdragon 435, the Snapdragon draws less power from batteries. The company says that you can get 4 hours more usage and it consumes 30% less power when gaming. It does support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0, if and when you need to top up your device.

The new mid-ranged SoC will also support live bokeh effects, so we’re pretty sure that we’ll be seeing dual camera equipped smartphones packed the newly released Snapdragon 450.

You can expect smartphones this new SoC from Qualcomm by the end of the year, but we should be hearing about them by Q3 of 2017.
