No more gala unveiling for the S5

If you’re waiting for Samsung’s newest flagship device, the Galaxy S5, you won’t have to wait for long. The New York Times is reporting that the new flagship device will be unveiled during Mobile World Congress. The Korean electronics juggernaut has already sent out invites to press for their Unpacked Episode 1 event, scheduled for Feb 24th, in Barcelona Spain.

Compared to last year’s gala unveiling at Radio Music Hall in New York, the event in Barcelon Spain will be slightly muted, and will be all business. Part of the reason according to the NYT is that the Galaxy S4 failed to perform to the expectation of analysts, which would explain slightly safer approach to unveiling the new flagship.

The report also included a few more details about the device, which comes at no surprise: a better camera, better processor and fewer gimmicky software features. Surprisingly, the device will also not have a higher, quad HD display (2,560 x 1440) according to the report. The supposed iris scanner will also not be appearing on the device.
