Samsung to Build New Application Processor for Galaxy Devices

While Samsung is still in hot waters over what Game Optimization Services GOS, it seems that they are working on something new to address it. This was confirmed by Samsung Electronics President TM Roh, who said in a meeting that they are working on an application processor to cater to the needs of its Galaxy devices.

To make it clear, the application processor is different from the Exynos processors that Samsung is currently producing for its phones and for some brands (vivo and Meizu to name a few).

Roh did not disclose the development status of the Application Processor, nor did it specify if the team in charge of developing it is the same team behind its current crop of Exynos processors.

It would be strange if the new application processor will be similar to Exynos–but then, it’s possible that Samsung might want to bury the Exynos brand for good after all the negative press it has received. Even the new Exynos 2200 is not spared–benchmark figures show that it performs lower than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Aside from the GOS debacle, Exynos 2200 versions of the Galaxy S22 Ultra are reportedly facing GPS issues. Samsung acknowledged the issues, and said that they are working on a software fix.
