It will be upgrading its production lines to manufacture quantum dot screens
For several years, Samsung has been the top producer of LCD panels for various brands. However, with demand for LCD panels dwindling as of late, Reuters reports that Samsung will be ending its production of LCD panels by the end of 2020.
While it will continue to supply ordered LCDs to our customers by the end of this year without any issues,” Samsung’s main focus for the next five years will be converting one of its South Korea LCD factories to manufacture quantum dot (aka QLED) displays. Samsung will be investing 13.1 trillion won (~$10.72 billion) for the upgrade.
Currently, Samsung has a total of four LCD factories: two in South Korea and two in China.
