Review: OPPO F3 Review: Is This The New Selfie King?

Core Hardware: The J7 Pro edges out.

First up, let’s talk about the phones’ displays. The J7 Pro comes with a Samsung-caliber Super AMOLED screen at Full HD resolution. The F3‘s plain IPS panel and the Selfie‘s disappointing 720p resolution pale in comparison to the J7 Pro’s display package.

Talking about build quality, the J7 Pro is the only handset in the bunch with a pure metal unibody chassis. The ZenFone 4 Selfie has a plastic back frame, while the OPPO F3 sports plastic strips on the top and bottom of its body.

Moving under the hood, we’ve got the J7 Pro again in the lead with a 14nm-fabbed Exynos 7870 mid-range chipset. The Selfie and F3 both have 28-nm budget-oriented processors. Generally, having a newer fabrication process results in better processor power efficiency. The J7 Pro’s lead is slightly hampered by the fact that it only has 3GB RAM compared to the 4GB standard on its competitors. Also, the Selfie gets a slight bonus in that it features an Adreno 505 GPU, which is notedly better than the other two’s graphics units.

As for storage options, the Selfie comes with a base 64GB storage, expandable up to 128GB. The J7 Pro gets a lesser 32GB internal storage but gets more expansion potential at 256GB. The OPPO F3 is the clear winner when it comes to storage hardware as it combines the best of the other two’s packages.

Selfie Camera Dilemma: The ZenFone 4 Selfie gets a point.

According to ASUS, the ZenFone 4 Selfie series’ dual cameras can do artificial bokeh and wide-angle shots. The F3′s two front shooters do a commendable job at general selfie photography, but can only do wide-angle captures. The J7 Pro has one reliable front camera with a shallow aperture that makes it great for low-light photography but lacks the features of its rivals. The ZenFone 4 Selfie takes the lead when it comes to selfie-snapping.

The handsets’ rear cameras, on paper, look like a toss-up at this point. We’ll side with the J7 Pro’s rear snappers, just for the fact that it’s better geared for low-light conditions due to its aperture rating.

Battery, Pricing, and Closing Thoughts:

Battery-wise, the J7 Pro gets another plus to its rating for having the largest battery capacity of the trio. It also has the most power efficient chipset of the bunch, thanks to its 14-nm fabbed processor. Since all of these handsets don’t have any form of fast charging technology, the J7 Pro is at a clear advantage in battery life.

Since the price tags of these smartphones are quite close, we’ll leave it to user preference on which smartphone to consider as the “best”. Pick the option that best suits your needs.

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro features the best build quality and hardware at a price that’s in the middle. While it does come with reliable front and back cameras, they’re not as specialized as the competition’s setups, considering that it has only one selfie sensor.

The OPPO F3 is currently the most expensive option and comes with middling specifications and build caliber. It does ship with dual selfie snappers that can do great wide-angle shots.

The ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie is the cheapest of the three, but it only comes with an HD display, the smallest battery pack, and a plastic-metal finish. It has a great dual selfie camera setup that can do artificial bokeh and wide-angle photography.
