With several phones sporting the latest and most powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite now available in the Philippines, it’s hard to deny that they are on the pricey side. Right now, the most affordable Snapdragon 8 Elite phone will cost you at least Php 46k (with the Xiaomi 15), and those looking for an even more affordable option might have to wait for the Snapdragon 8s Elite.
As for the rumors about the upcoming flagship killer chip, one has to manage their expectations as it is nowhere similar to the Snapdragon 8 Elite since it will not use Qualcomm’s in-house Oryon cores. Instead, it will be more of a revamped version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Based on what we know so far, the Snapdragon 8s Elite will go for a 1/3/2/2 configuration that consists of a Cortex-X4 core running at 3.21Ghz, two Cortex-A720 cores running at 3.01Ghz, two Cortex-A720 cores running at 2.8Ghz, and two Cortex-A520 cores running at 2.02Ghz. Its GPU will be an Adreno 825, which appears to be a downclocked version of the Adreno 830 used on the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
Looking at the rumored specs, the Snapdragon 8s Elite’s performance should slot in between the previous-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and the current Snapdragon 8 Elite, which is not bad especially if upcoming phones using this chip will be priced at under Php 40,000.
According to rumors, iQOO and Redmi will be the first brands to use this processor, and we’ll have to wait until we get our hands on one to see how the Snapdragon 8s Elite stack up against other flagship chips.
