Sony Officially Announces New A7 III Full Frame Mirrorless Camera

Featuring a new sensor, improved autofocus, and 4K shooting

Three years after the A7 II was launched, Sony unveils its successor to the A7 II with the A7 III. Key upgrades on the A7 III include a new Exmor R sensor, a new Autofocus system that borrows features from the flagship A9, and 4K video recording.

While the sensor has the same megapixels as its predecessor, the A7 III’s sensor is paired with front-end LSI and an updated BIONZ X image processing engine that help the A7 III achieve a base ISO range of 100 – 51200 (expandable to ISO 50 – 204800 for still images) and as much as 1.5 stop improvement in image quality. On top of the sensor upgrades, the A7 III also has a 5-axis in-camera image stabilization.

For the Autofocus system, the A7 III now has 425 contrast AF points that work with a 693-point focal-plane phase-detection AF system—a feature borrowed from the A9. These upgrades make the A7 III focus as much as 2X faster compared to its predecessor.

When it comes to videos, the A7 III can now shoot 4K video at 24/25FPS, with an HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma), S-Log2 and S-Log3 color grading options, Zebra functionality, Gamma Display assist, and proxy recording. For Full HD shooting, the A7 III is capable of recording 1080 footage at 120FPS and up to 100MBps.

To keep the lights on, the A7 III uses a new NP-FZ100 battery—the same battery used in the A9 and A7R IIIthat Sony claims up to 2.2 times more capacity compared to the NP-FW50 battery used in the A7 II.

The A7 III is now available at all Sony authorized stores. Pricing is at Php 115,999 for the body only, and Php 129,999 with the FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS lens.
