4K resolution, baby!
Today, Sony has officially announced the Xperia Z5 family of phones, headlined by the Z5 Premium. The Z5 Premium is Sony’s answer to the flagship devices of its competitors, and boy, is it a bold statement. For one thing, the Z5 Premium is the world’s first phone to offer a 4K resolution display – that’s 3,840 x 2,160 on a 5.5-inch panel. For the pixel counters out there, that’s 806 ppi. While people will debate if that resolution is overkill for a phone with such a small display, you can’t deny that’s an amazing feat by itself, something that no other manufacturer has managed to accomplish.

The Z5 Premium sports Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor, along with 32GB of storage and 3GB of RAM along with a 3430mAh battery. Sony’s OmniBalance design philosophy still reigns supreme, and the Z5 Premium is a mere 7.8mm thick.
Sony’s sensors are everywhere, and it only makes sense for the company to put in their best camera in their own flagship. The Z5 Premium sports their 23-megapixel, 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS sensor. The camera sports a six-element 24mm lens with a f/2.0 aperture, along with phase detection. Sony’s new Z5 series are also almost stock Android, as Sony has decided to do away with their UI on the Z5 series of devices. The phone also sports a fingerprint scanner on the side.
Much like the Z5 Premium, the two other members of the Z5 family – the Z5 and the Z5 Compact are also present during IFA. In terms of hardware, all three are identical, save for physical size, battery and RAM – the Z5 Premium has a 5.5-inch 4K panel, the Z5 has a 5.2-inch full HD display while the Z5 Compact has a 4.7-inch HD display. Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact will launch globally from October 2015, and Xperia Z5 Premium from November 2015 – Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium will be available in both Single SIM and Dual SIM variants.
