The Xperia 1 VI has an Updated Telephoto Zoom Camera

Sony has unveiled the Xperia 1 VI globally, and while there’s no chance that it’s coming to the Philippines, we still wish that this flagship could make it to the country.

Compared to last year’s Xperia 1 V, the Xperia 1 VI is more of an iterative upgrade. The biggest change is with the display, where Sony gave up the 4K resolution an the tall 21:9 aspect ratio for a more conventional 19.5:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ resolution. It’s still 6.5 inches, but it’s now a 120hz LTPO OLED panel that has a higher peak brightness of 1300nits.

The revised display also meant better battery life for its 5000mAh cell–with Sony quoting as much as 2 days. Charging is on the slow side (for a flagship) at 30w, but Sony claims that the battery will still keep its capacity at 80% after 4 years of use. The speakers have been tweaked, with Sony claiming that they are louder and more balanced compared to the Xperia 1 V’s speakers. And yes, the headphone jack is still there, and the same goes for the IP68 rating.

The telephoto camera gets a few updates, where you get a longer optical zoom range at 85mm-170mm while still using the same 12-megapixel 1/3.5-inch sensor. The updated zoom range also includes a closer focusing range and a dedicated telemacro mode at 120mm.

The main camera still uses the same 52-megapixel, 1/1.35-inch sensor, but it can now shoot at 48-megapixels (do note that the only usable area is 48 megapixels). The ultra-wide camera is still the same at 12-megapixels.

The Xperia 1 VI gets a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor that’s paired with 12GB RAM, and European models get 256GB storage, while Japanese and East Asia models get 512GB of storage. It comes with Android 14 out of the box, and Sony commits to 3 major updates and 4 years of security updates.

The Xperia 1 VI is priced at 1399 Euros(~Php 88k) and will be available in early June in Europe.

I really wish I could get my hands on this phone. I’m currently using Samsung S20+ and switching back to Sony would be a huge upgrade for me. I don’t mind the display. I just love the updates that they made on the camera. The colors on photos and the bokeh looks natural for me! I really wish this will be available in PH.
