More powerful than Surge S1
Xiaomi is known to create bang-for-the-buck phones that are well-loved by it’s fans. In its effort to make further impact in the mobile phone industry, Xiaomi is also into making their own SoCs.
Last year, they introduced their Surge S1 SoC, which was launched together with the Mi 5c. This year, there are reports that Xiaomi is working on the Surge S2, and it’s said to be more powerful than it’s predecessor.
Initial rumors for the Surge S2 include a 16nm process, an octa-core setup consisting of four Cortex A73 cores with a 2.2GHz clock speed and Cortex A53 cores with a 1.8 GHz clock speed. It will have a Mali G71-MP8 GPU, and has support for UFS 2.1 storage and LPDDR4 RAM. From the specs alone, the Surge S2 is at par with Huawei’s Kirin 960 in terms of overall performance.
The upcoming SoC is said to launch at MWC 2018, being used on the upcoming dual-camera equipped Mi 6X.
