While preorders are ongoing in the Philippines, Nintendo is having a great start with the Switch 2, as it has sold over 3.5 million units globally in the first four days. That’s a feat for Nintendo, making the Switch 2 its best-selling video game system and the fastest-selling videogame console of all time.
“Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go,” Nintendo of America President and Chief Operating Officer Doug Bowser said in a press release. “We are thankful for their response and happy to see the fun they are already having with Nintendo Switch 2 as they explore new features and games that bring friends and family together in new ways.”
Having that much sales in the first few days is also impressive by the fact that the Switch 2 has a significant price hike over its predecessor and is more expensive than a PlayStation 5 in the Philippines. It’s also interesting to see a lot of interest this early even if there are a limited number of game titles that users can buy within this month.
For context, Niko Partners Daniel Ahmad explained on X that it took Sony 16 days to sell 2.1 million PlayStation 4 consoles, and six weeks to reach 4.2 million units. As for the PlayStation 5, it took Sony 7 weeks to sell 4.4 million units.
